Pottery Care Instructions How to Care for Your Hand Painted Ceramics Thank you for choosing to paint ceramics at Crafty Monkey Pottery Painting Studio! To ensure your beautiful piece remains in optimum condition, please follow the care instructions below. By following these guidelines, you can keep your hand-painted ceramics looking beautiful and vibrant for years to come. If you have further questions about caring for your pottery, feel free to contact us. General Care Handle with Care: Treat your ceramic piece gently to avoid chips or cracks. Avoid dropping or banging it against hard surfaces. Temperature Changes: Avoid exposing your pottery to sudden temperature changes as this can cause thermal shock crazing and cracking. How Do I Clean My Pottery? Hand Washing: For best results, always hand wash your ceramic items and don't submerge your piece into water for a long period of time. Use warm water and mild dish soap with a soft sponge or cloth. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft towel. Avoid Abrasives: Do not use abrasive scrubbers or harsh cleaning agents as they can damage the painted surface. Dishwasher: While putting it in the dishwasher now and again won't necessarily damage it, over time it will wear a lot quicker and we recommend hand washing to preserve the hand-painted design and ensure the longevity of your pottery. Using Your Hand-Painted Pottery Can I use my pottery in the microwave? We don't recommend putting your pottery in the microwave. Is it safe to put my pottery in the oven? Hand-painted ceramics should not be used in the oven. Is it OK to put my pottery in the freezer? Do not place your ceramic items directly in the freezer, as extreme cold can cause cracking. If you need to chill a piece, allow it to reach room temperature before refrigerating. Displaying Your Ceramics Sunlight Exposure: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause colors to fade. Display your ceramics away from strong sunlight to maintain their vibrant appearance. Surface Protection: Use felt pads or coasters under your pottery to prevent scratches on your furniture.

How Crafty Monkey Pottery Studio in Cambridgeshire Was Born Chrissy Bennett Owner of Crafty Monkey From Idea to Kiln: The Journey of Crafty Monkey Pottery Painting & Craft Studio Established 2010 At the time, Chrissy worked as a buyer for a gift experience company, spending her days testing out everything from Ferrari driving and hot air balloon rides to spa days and photoshoots. Tough job, right? But someone had to do it! Always on the lookout for exciting new experiences, Chrissy discovered paint-your-own pottery at a ceramics café during a friend’s hen do—and she was instantly hooked! She loved how it was an experience that everyone, regardless of age or ability, could enjoy.While chatting with the café owner about what a fantastic business it must be to run, the owner simply said, “You should start one yourself.” And with that, the lightbulb went off! Six months later, after plenty of planning, Crafty Monkey in St. Neots flung open its doors just in time for the summer holidays of 2010.Since then, Crafty Monkey has thrived thanks to the support of the St. Neots local community and our amazing customers. The business has grown into a team of 7, with Chrissy now working behind the scenes while the team concentrate on the day to day running of the studio and take Crafty Monkey on the road, hosting pottery painting and build a bear at various venues. We carefully apply non-toxic, skin-safe paint to your baby's hand or foot and press it onto a piece of pottery of your choice - mugs, plates, plaques & even baubles. The Process: We do the prints for you, and can add lettering and decoration or you can. Best for: Keepsakes and affordable gifts. Prints on Pottery 3D Baby Casts For a truly high-definition memory, our 3D casts capture every tiny wrinkle and fingernail. These are standalone sculptures that can be framed or displayed on a plinth. The Process: A quick, safe molding process that captures a perfect 3D replica. Best for: A premium, "wow-factor" nursery centerpiece. Baby Casts Imprints in Clay Capture a clay impression of your baby's hands or feet. Baby imprints give a "pressed-in" look and are achieved by gently pressing your baby’s hands or feet into soft clay to create the recessed impression. The Process: Once dry, they're fired in our kiln and painted to highlight the print. Best for: Rustic, timeless wall hangings. Baby Imprints Plaster Outprints Show off every delicate detail of your child’s hands or feet with outprints. They're the opposite of clay impressions and the hand or foot "raised" from the surface of the plaster. The Process: We take a clay mold and use it to create a raised plaster finish. Once dry and we decorate in your choice of colour. Best for : Sophisticated framed displays. To help us capture those perfect tiny details, here are a few handy tips to help you prepare for your visit with your baby to our studio: A Note for Parents : Our studio is a breastfeeding-friendly space, and we have room for buggies. If your little one is having a "fussy" day, don't worry - we’ll take our time and work at their pace. Timing is Everything Try to schedule your appointment around your baby’s nap and feed times. A well-fed, baby who's just had a nap or is sleepy is usually the most relaxed, which makes it much easier to get a clear print. If they happen to fall asleep in the car on the way here - don't wake them. If doing footprints on pottery we can usually get them while they snooze. For other services, you can choose your colours and personalisations while they sleep. Dress for Success While the clay and paint we use are non-toxic and wash off easily, we recommend dressing your little one in something that provides easy access to their hands and feet. Avoid : Tight leggings, complicated button-up dungarees, or delicate "best" outfits. Ideal : A simple baby grow or a short-sleeved vest works best.. The "Wiggle" Factor Don’t worry if your newborn or toddler are a "wiggler". Our team is experienced (we’ve seen it all!) and we have tricks. We work quickly and gently so it's as stress-free as possible. Think About Your Customisation Before you visit us, have a quick think about: Colours : Have a think about colours you like Designs : If doing prints, do you want plain or designs? Wording : If making gifts, what writing would you like. Check spellings of names and dates you’d like us to include. Pottery : If prints, view our pottery range online for ideas Frame : For imprints & outprints, do you want a black, white or wood coloured deep-box frame? Warm Hands and Feet If it’s a chilly day, and opting for imprints or outprints, try to keep your baby's hands and feet tucked away and warm until we start. Warm skin is generally more subtle and softer and better for getting a detailed impression in the clay than cold, stiff fingers! Bring a Spare Outfit While it's relatively mess-free. It’s always a good idea to have a spare outfit and some extra wipes in your changing bag if going somewhere else after, Just in case! Book a Session Do You Cater for Mum & Baby Groups in Your Studio? We certainly do! We get lots of groups of mum's with their babies in our St Neots based pottery studio. Usually people who have met at an NCT group. Our group sessions for mums and their little one's are a fun way to create personalised hand and footprint ceramic keepsakes while catching up with friends in a baby-friendly environment.
