Make a Mug or Jug

Create from clay your very own mug or jug to be proud of!

How to Make a Mug or Jug

Making a "Mug or Jug" is a hands-on, beginner friendly, clay project for anyone who believes that coffee or gravy tastes better from a handmade vessel. This session is all about the tactile joy of functional pottery - creating a piece that isn't just art, but something you can use.

You'll be taught the slab-building technique and given step-by-step instructions to wrap and join your clay into a perfect cylinder.

Once your base structure is ready, you’ll tackle the most rewarding part: the handle! We’ll guide you through crafting an ergonomic handle and attaching it securely so your mug or jug is as sturdy as it is stylish. While others might be making different projects, you’ll be focused on perfecting your pour or your sip.

Paint it How You Want

Once your cup or jug is built, you’ll use our vibrant underglaze paints to decorate it. Add a personalized monogram, a splash of "dipped" color, or intricate patterns—your morning brew will never look better.

What You’ll Create

  • A Hand-Built Mug or Jug: A fully functional ceramic vessel, whether it's a chunky "hug-mug" or a dainty milk jug.

  • The Perfect Handle: Learn how to make and attach handles.

  • A Custom Finish: Use stamps, textures, and paints to make a piece that fits your kitchen aesthetic perfectly.

What Core Pottery Class Should I Book?

You can make this project by booking onto either our Slab Pot or Intro to Hand-Building Pottery Class. Others on the class may be making other projects but most will start with the same slab pot as the foundation structure.

Note for Parents

During this class, some participants may be working on body-positive projects, such as "Boob Pots." We leave it to the discretion of parents/guardians to decide if this environment is appropriate for their children.
