  • Pottery Painting - 1 hour

This is for a 1 hour session to do pottery painting and that includes time to pick your piece. One hour is usually enough time for toddlers and pre-school children who don't have great attention spans or people who just want to create a quick piece or perhaps finishing off. If you need more time as long as we're not fully booked then you can stay longer. If new to pottery painting and you or your children are over 4 then book our longer session. The cost is £4 studio fee per painter plus the cost of the item/s painted. To get an idea of prices check out our online shop. The £10 booking fee reserves your table and is taken off your spend on the day. For groups of 6 or more please book one of our party slots so we can accommodate you in the party area. If you want hand or footprints for toddlers or below as well as painting then book a print session as we may not be able to help you with these (depends on how busy we are). For older children, you will probably be able to do the prints yourselves if we are to busy to help. We endeavor to get pottery through the kiln within 10 days (often it is ready sooner) but occasionally things need to go back in again and can take a little longer. If you need items ready sooner then we can usually offer a speedy firing service that takes 3-5 days (extra £3 fee).

  • Re-do Slot

I'm afraid pottery is not always an exact science and there are so many things that can occur in the firing process with these hand produced items that are unpredictable. Or sometimes there is human error involved - we strive for perfection and hate it if we make mistakes but unfortunately it can happen! If there is a problem with any of your pieces that we deem needs a re-do we will contact you and ask you to book a slot, PLEASE ONLY BOOK THIS SLOT IF WE HAVE REQUESTED YOU TO DO SO.

  • Crafternoon Tea Experience at Sawtry Tea Room

Crafty Monkey hit the road for a crafternoon (afternoon tea and pottery painting experience) hosted at Sawtry Tea Room, and it was a delightful affair! Nestled on the high street of Sawtry, the tea room provided a lovely setting for an afternoon filled with creativity, laughter, and, of course, plenty of tea. Guests feasted on an array of sandwiches, cakes, and other delightful treats plucked from tiered trays and cake stands. Vintage crockery adorned the tables, adding an elegant touch to the ambiance and setting the stage for a special experience. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as the guests came together, cups of tea in hand to spend some quality time together and embark in some mindfulness and creativity. From delicate flowers on jugs to geometric designs on mugs, each participant poured their heart and soul into their creations. Smiles were abundant and there was plenty of chatter over the delicacies but you could hear a pin drop whilst the concentration on painting was happening. The afternoon was wonderful and left us with a feeling of ‘our glass is full’. At the end we all got to see what each other had been working on and it’s amazing to see how each person brings their own unique perspective and creativity to the table. As the afternoon came to a close, we bid farewell to Sawtry Tea Room with full hearts and full bellies. Thankyou to everyone who joined us for this special event and helped make it a lovely experience. Check out our reel from the afternoon below! If you were disappointed to miss out on this event be sure to keep an eye on our social media for when the bookings go live for our next one at Sawtry Tea Room or check out our events page on the website. If you're interested in hosting a workshop or a sip and paint event of your own, whether it's a mother-daughter outing, a team-building activity, or a gathering with friends, we'd love to hear from you! Contact us to discuss how we can bring a touch of Crafty Monkey magic to you! #potterypainting #crafternoontea #diypotterypainting #paintyourownpottery #pyop #potterylove #potteryart #ceramics #paintyourown #afternoontea #cambridgeshireactivities #uniquethingstodo

  • Easter Egg Alternatives

With Easter just around the corner (I know, still feels like January right? but honestly it's super close now. There's never been a better time to join us for a pottery painting eggs-travaganza (gotta love a pun!) Not everyone can enjoy or wants to eat chocolate at Easter so it's always fun to look for an alternative gift or experience. Picture this: you and your crew gathered around a table, surrounded by an array of Easter-themed pottery pieces just waiting to be transformed (of course it could be any pottery). From adorable bunnies and colourful eggs to sweet lambs, delicate flowers, and meaningful crosses, our selection of Easter-inspired pieces is sure to ignite your imagination. Whether it's a ceramic egg filled with succulents or an Easter bunny ornament adorning your shelf, each piece adds a touch of character to your home. Here's a small selection of some of our Easter themed pieces just waiting to be painted either in our studio or they can be purchased as a 'Take Out' kit to paint at home either with our underglazes or with your own acrylic paint. These make gret Easter gifts as an alternative to a choccie egg especially for little ones. (oh just a sidenote though... the products below are just to show you some of our collection - please only hit the buy now button if you are purchasing as a take out kit. If you are painting in the studio you choose and pay for your piece on the day) Book your studio session now Of course you don't have to paint Easter pieces, anything can be made Eastery especially if you you have little hand or footprints for their first Easter. Whether you're a seasoned painter or a total beginner, there's a piece of pottery with your name on it. Trust us, you'll be amazed at what you can create with a little bit of paint and a whole lot of imagination. See you in the studio! oh and here is a little gallery of images to give you some ideas on what you could paint and how it could look... But hang on, why are we talking about bunnies, shouldn't it be chickens? And what’s with the eggs? Why are we encouraging you to paint these things? let's take a quick moment to explore the history behind some of Easter's most iconic symbols: The Easter Bunny can be traced back to acnient folklore particularly in Germanic cultures. Originally it wasn't a bunny though, but instead a hare. Hares were used to symbolise fertility and new life... which links them to the rabbit and the expression about their mating practises and in Christianity the hare is a representation of the resurrection of Christ and the promise of new beginnings. How cute are those little bunny footprints? This was created a couple of years ago now but I think we can all agree how stinking cute it is! Check out more bunny footprints here. These days however it is not a hare that delivers our chocolatey treats on Easter Sunday but instead a cute little bunny rabbit that is often tweaked with artistic license to be anthopomorphic, carrying a basket on one arm and maybe a pink satin ribbon adorned around his neck. This image is largely fuelled by advertising but hey, what's not to love about a cute bunny especially one that delivers those yummies! Chocolate Eggs: Just like hares and rabbits, the egg has long been associated with Springtime festivals for symbolising new life. Traditionally eggs were decorated and exchanged at family gatherings and festivals. That all makes sense but do you ever wonder why chocolate eggs are a staple of Easter celebrations? This tradition dates back to the early 19th century when European confectioners began crafting chocolate eggs as a sweet treat for the holiday and some may say that this was the start to the commercialisation of the holiday although a choccy egg is something many people look forward to receiving so it's not all bad!

  • Childrens Parties

KIDS PARTIES! Childrens Parties: Image Both children and parents love Crafty Monkey birthday parties - children love them because they are a lot of fun, parents love them because the children are entertained, happy and stress free! What's more the children get to create something they can keep so no party bags are needed! Our designated party area seats up to 12 children (14 at a push if they are small). If you have more attendees, we may need to seat some in the studio or need to book the whole studio out to accommodate it or hold it outside opening hours (opening fee will apply) or we also now do Take Out Home Party Kits where you can host the party at home or a venue of your choice! If you choose to do pottery painting then you would need to drop the painted pottery back to us to be glazed and fired. You will have the party area for 1 hour 30 minutes. Younger children (4-5 year olds) are likely to finish much earlier than this so it's advised to put pick up after 1 hour to 1hour 15 mins. Due to limited space the number of parents/helpers are limited to 2 people and parents can drop off their children at the door and wait outside when they come to collect. Unfortunately, we no longer offer party food and we do not allow you to bring your own food or drink to the party. You may bring a Birthday Cake to cut up and pop into their party bags if you are providing them, but this is not allowed to be eaten in the studio. Minimum group size 8 for our party packages. If you want a smaller affair to celebrate a childs birthday then you can just book a pottery painting, build a bear or foam clay session in our studio for your group size, however you will not have access to our party animal range and the prices below are for a minimum of 8 participants. We take a £50 deposit on booking. This is non-refundable but you can change the date with 14 days notice. The deposit will then be deducted from what you pay on the day of the Party.
